It is safe to say these past weeks have been among some of the most tumultuous and emotional than any of us can remember. The abrupt end to the WGI season, with all its promises of small and big moments, left us to discover something profound and moving about ourselves: an overpowering wish to be connected with one another.
The role of connecting people is one that WGI has been privileged to play for over 40 years. It is in this spirit that “I AM WGI” Day was born. Let this be a virtual celebration of an indoor marching arts community dedicated to excellence and achievement where there are no limits, only the language of music, dance, athleticism, and art.
And while we won’t have the physical manifestation of our annual gathering in Dayton, let’s take this day to celebrate the idea of WGI: a new wave in the marching arts where every participant can achieve their personal best. No score, trophy, or medal can ever compare to the dream of realizing your fullest potential.
To those denied your moment under the lights, our hearts go out to each and every one of you. As we face this challenge as a united community, let the Sport of the Arts continue to be a beacon of optimism and unity to many around the world.
We are standing together while far apart.
