 Rich Zamperini received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his Master of Science degree in Music Education from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. His marching experience includes stints with the General Butler Vagabonds of Butler, Pennsylvania, the Bridgemen of Bayonne, New Jersey, and the 27th Lancers of Revere, Massachusetts where he was respectively instructed by Drum Corps International Hall of Fame members Scott Koter, Dennis DeLucia and Charley Poole. He has performed in wind ensembles conducted by Frederick Fennell, William Revelli, Eugene Corporan, H. Robert Reynolds, and Jack Stamp, and his jazz teachers include Dom Famularo, Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, David Garibaldi, and Jimmy Cobb.

Rich’s over 30 year career includes experience as an instructor, conductor, director, clinician, composer, arranger, performer, and adjudicator. He has taught or advised over 100 different ensembles – ages kindergarten to senior citizen – throughout the U.S, Canada, and Jamaica He has served as a music judge in 31 different states and Canada, has adjudicated 26 different state championships competitions, and served on six Drum Corps International finals week panels. Past administrative positions include Director of the General Butler Vagabonds drum and bugle corps, Assistant Director of the Steel City Ambassadors drum and bugle corps, and Music Caption Coordinator of the Pennsylvania Federation of Contest Judges.

The Marching Roundtable lists Rich as a “Master” judge and has had him as a featured speaker on one of their podcasts. He is the sole proprietor of the Facebook page, “Good to Great, Great to Champion”, which provides rehearsal tips and booking information. Rich is an active staff nember and advisor for many marching bands throughout the United States.
