Tom Hachmeister, A WGI contest administrator and long-time supporter of the marching arts, passed away peacefully this morning, November 14th.
Tom’s commitment to the performing arts spanned decades, and his contributions left a lasting mark on the communities he served. He served many different roles among various performing arts organizations, dedicating his time to ensuring that performers had the best possible experience.
His official involvement with WGI began in 1988 as a regional director. Over the years, this position would evolve into the “contest administrator” role we know today, overseeing and managing the operations of our many regional events. During WGI’s formative years, Tom became a fixture at the organization’s Midwest regional.
“Tom was a quiet hero, and we all witnessed his dedication to WGI with deep appreciation,” said Chief Executive Officer Ron Nankervis. “He joins a long list of memorable characters who will always be remembered and loved for his wit and how he put young people first.”
In addition to his administrative roles, Tom always offered help wherever needed, earning him the occasional announcer role at local regionals. He will always be remembered for his willingness to help others and his dedication to the marching arts.
