The "Pride" Marching Band Color Guard Instructor Vacancy

Texas A&M University-Commerce is seeking a Color Guard Instructor for the 2023 Fall semester. The “Pride” Marching Band performs at home football games and at marching exhibitions throughout the state of Texas and the wider United States. Notable recent exhibition performances include Bands of America Grand Nationals (2019), Bands of America San Antonio Super Regional (2018) and the Texas 6A State Marching Contest (2016), with frequent invitations to perform in exhibition coming from Bands of America/Music For All and UIL Area and State events.

As a marching ensemble made up of more than 75% music majors, The “Pride” is based on a foundation that a university marching band can produce a product that is both visually and musically exemplary.  The rehearsal environment is focused on individual and collective excellence, serving as a laboratory for training future teachers in the marching arts.  The “Pride” serves as the most visible musical ambassador for the university.

This position includes instruction at a nine-day pre-season camp with tremendous scheduling flexibility, three weekly rehearsals (approximately 6-7 hours per week), involvement in home football games and DFW exhibitions as possible, and optional lead instruction at the annual mid-June Leadership, Drum Major & Color Guard Camp, which draws 450-550 students annually (100 of which are color guard).

The marching band faculty is highly collaborative and seeks a colleague to add to this dynamic instructional and creative team.  Faculty members are current/former instructors and performers in the drum & bugle corps and competitive marching band activities.

This position is designed (and has traditionally been filled) to be combined with a DFW metroplex high school program in terms of the scope of work.  Previous instructors have enjoyed the opportunity to be part of both a competitive high school program and simultaneously with students at the collegiate level.  Significant scholarship funds and marketing materials are available to assist in attracting prospective members (including non-music Majors).

We look forward to visiting with interested applicants beginning immediately, and will continue to do so until the position is filled.  Interested parties should email Allan Goodwin, Director of Athletic Bands, to express interest.
