Color Guard Director

Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas is accepting cover letters/resumes for the position of Color Guard Director.

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of overall operation of color guard program and University Interscholastic League (UIL) policy is helpful
• Ability to choreograph, demonstrate, and teach movement
• Ability to work with students in a positive environment
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Program Coordination

• Choreograph, arrange, and implement color guard routines as an integrated part of the marching band and as an independent winter guard unit
• Instruct high school color guard performers in marching band, winter guard, competitions, and in solo ensemble events
• Schedule rehearsals and events for competitions
• Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in color guard
• Conduct new student try-outs and make fair and consistent decisions
• Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events

Student Achievement and Discipline

• Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
• Supervise students during practices, performances, competitions, and associated travel
• Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and staff
• Keep band director informed of special needs or concerns of individual students
• Communicate with parents and organize their efforts to support the color guard
• Enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook

Management and Organization

• Maintain neat and orderly facilities and rehearsal areas
• Maintain inventory of and care for equipment, costumes, and supplies; oversee process of cleaning, repairing and storage
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, record, and other documents as required

Other

• Comply with policies and regulations established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy
• Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
