Overview
The Kings High School Band is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Color Guard Director.

 

Salary
Fall Guard: $3,900 with yearly raises per district salary schedule
Winter Guard: $6,100 with yearly raises per district salary schedule

 

About the Program
The Kings High School Marching Band has a long and proud tradition of excellence. They have been MSBA Class AAAA Champions every year since 2019, earned OMEA Class AA State Final Superior Ratings every year since 2014, and were BOA Toledo Regional Finalists in 2023 and 2021. The Kings High School Marching Band Color Guard is usually 15-20 students and plays a critical role in the Marching Band’s success. They earned MSBA AAAA best guard in 2022 and 2021.

The Kings High School Winter Guard competes in Scholastic A in WGI and MEPA. They were WGI World Championship Semifinalists in 2022 and 2018. The Kings Junior High School Winter Guard competes in the Junior Color Guard class in MEPA. They were MEPA silver medalists in 2023. The High School and Junior High Winter Guards are usually 8-15 students each.

 

Staff
The Color Guard director works closely with color guard designers Alex Holland and Lola Holland (Centerville HS), visual designer Susan Bass (Mason HS), band directors and music arrangers Brian McDonough and Mike Maegly, and drill designer Thomas Sparling (Cap City). The Kings Band Boosters and Kings Local School District fill 2-3 color guard technician positions per season to serve as the director’s staff.

Summer
1 week early summer “mini camp”
2 weekly guard only sectionals (negotiable)
2 weeks late summer “band camp”

Fall
2 weekly full band rehearsals
1 weekly guard only sectional
1 bi-weekly home football game
1 weekly Saturday rehearsal and show

 

Winter Guard Commitment
2 weekly Junior High rehearsals
3 weekly High School rehearsals
1 weekly Saturday rehearsal and show
Other rehearsals during school breaks

 

Qualifications
The ideal candidate has performance experience with World Class DCI and/or WGI groups and teaching experience with a competitive marching band. Once hired, the director will need to complete a FBI/BCI background check and earn a Pupil Activity Permit.
