WGI Board of Directors and Staff recently adopted updates to the organization’s Code of Conduct for the upcoming 2025 season. These improvements are designed to empower performers and support staff with clear guidelines and resources, fostering a culture of care that prioritizes the well-being of everyone participating in WGI.
Over the summer, Dr. Will Frankenberger, Director of Participant Protection, completed an audit of the current participant protection program and proposed several recommendations for changes to the WGI Code of Conduct. The newly proposed Code of Conduct included amendments to existing policies and the addition of new policies on hostile rehearsal environments, false reporting, fraternization, harassment, and bullying to proactively address emerging concerns.
“Our participating groups intend to do the right thing and keep all of their participants safe. We hope this newly developed Code of Conduct provides everyone with a clear and applicable understanding of the policies expected by all members. This should be viewed as a resource to support participant protection practices, not a book of laws outlining the ‘dos and don’ts.’”
By updating the Code of Conduct with precise and comprehensive language, WGI aims to reduce any ambiguity and confusion on standards, proactively address potential risks, and clarify the expectations for safe conduct within the activity.
“We are listening to our community and responding with this updated Code of Conduct that makes our policies accessible, clear, and easy to understand,” said Ron Nankervis, Chief Executive Officer. “WGI is committed to protecting our participants, from the rehearsal environment to the competition floor, and continuing to refine our processes is a testament to that commitment. While we are proud of our progress, we are focused on the work ahead.”
