WGI Virtual Events FAQ

Frequently Asked

Eligible groups may participate in both Virtual Events and “in-person” events. Virtual Events are a great opportunity for additional performance and judge feedback for any group (especially groups that cannot afford to travel). (NOTE: Groups that fall under the 400 mile rule are now required to enter Virtual Prelims as a qualifier for World Championships. Virtual Events are NOT considered a qualifier for groups that do not fall under the 400 mile rule. Groups entered for the in-person WGI World Championships are not considered for assessment or advancement into the Virtual Finals events, the group will only receive commentary. 

Yes! Groups can enter the preview show and the prelim event with separate entry fees if they wish.

  • Color Guard: Junior, Regional A, A Class, Open Class, and World Class groups
  • Percussion Marching Classes Only: A Class, Open Class and World Class groups
    *those concert groups who fall within the 400 mile rule are required to register for the Virtual Group Prelims.
  • Winds: A Class, Open Class, and World Class groups.

    Scholastic eligibility rules apply in all scholastic classes and age rules apply in all competitive classes.

No. The intent is that this is for current programs only.

All three divisions will be announcing assessment results the prelim event. The top10 assessments in each class at each event advance into the Virtual Finals Event. (Note: Groups entered into the in-person WGI World Championships are not considered for assessment or advancement into the Virtual Finals events, the group will only receive commentary. This includes groups that fall under the 400 mile rule.)

WGI Virtual Events are an opportunity for groups to receive additional feedback from WGI judges.  Videos of performances will not be available to the public.
