LGBTQIA+ Pride Resources

LGBTQIA+ Pride Resources

WGI proudly supports LGBTQ+ Pride this month and throughout the year. We have compiled the following resources (accessible year-round) to help inform and educate on the challenges that LGBTQ+ individuals face, highlighting a few of the many programs and organizations that are working to make a positive impact on the LGBTQ+ Community.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

STEPS

STEPS helps compassionate and driven professionals and students to further their education in training, develop career skills, and find a calling in making a difference. Our goal, year-round, is to connect with as many LGBTQIA+ students as possible to equip them with the right tools to succeed in college.

Organizations and Outreach

GLAAD

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Pride events garner media coverage each summer in communities across the country, and this toolkit (linked below) was created as a resource for media professionals in their coverage of Pride events.

GLSEN

GLSEN offers a range of resources for both student-led and educator-driven programs that seek to improve LGBTQ inclusivity in schools. Whether it’s taking a training, getting help starting a GSA, or using our LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum resources year-round, GLSEN is here to support you in supporting LGBTQ students.

GSA Network

GSA Network is a next-generation LGBTQ racial and gender justice organization that empowers and trains queer, trans and allied youth leaders to advocate, organize, and mobilize an intersectional movement for safer schools and healthier communities.

HUman Rights Campaign (HRC)

The Human Rights Campaign’s goal is to ensure that every LGBTQ person is free to live their life openly, with their equal rights ensured. They know that goal requires that we keep educating, supporting and inspiring ourselves and each other. In the spirit of that continual growth, they’ve compiled information and advice on a range of topics, including resources from the HRC Foundation.

It Gets Better Project

The It Gets Better Project is a nonprofit organization with a mission to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe. Growing up isn’t easy, especially when you are trying to affirm and assert your sexual orientation and/or gender identity. It can be a challenging and isolating process – but, the good news is, no one has to do it alone.

Matthew Shepard Foundation: Hate Crime Prevention Resources

The Matthew Shepard Foundation’s mission is to amplify the story of Matthew Shepard to inspire individuals, organizations, and communities to embrace the dignity and equality of all people. Through local, regional, and national outreach, they empower individuals to find their voice to create change and challenge communities to identify and address hate that lives within our schools, neighborhoods, and homes.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24-hour, toll-free suicide prevention hotline (1-800-273-8255) available to anyone in suicidal crisis. With more than 140 crisis centers across the country, their mission is to provide immediate assistance to anyone in emotional distress or seeking mental health services.

PFLAG

PFLAG is the first and largest organization for LGBTQ+ people, their parents and families, and allies. With over 400 chapters and 200,000 members across America providing support, education, and advocacy, PFLAG is committed to creating a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed.

The Jed Foundation

The Jed Foundation works nationally to reduce the rate of suicide and the prevalence of emotional distress among college and university students. To achieve this end, the organization collaborates with the public and leaders in higher education, mental health, and research to produce and advance initiatives.

The Trevor Project

Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.
