Guard Director

The James E. Taylor High School Band in Katy, Texas (about 20 miles west of Houston) is seeking a Color Guard Director effective immediately. This position will oversee all aspects of the Guard program in the James E. Taylor (JET) Band. The Director will teach the guard class, attend all after school rehearsals, and all performances.
The JET Band has been a consistent finalist at the BOA Katy and BOA Conroe Regionals. The Varsity Winter was promoted to Scholastic Open in 2021 and this season placed 2nd at the WGI Austin Regional and 5th at the WGI Dallas Super Regional. Our marching band design staff includes Rosie Queen and Scott Koter.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate all color guard activities.
Attend summer band camp.
Attend 3 rehearsals per week during the marching band season.
Attend 2-3 rehearsals per week during the winter guard season.
Attend fall football games and competitions.
Attend winter guard competitions.
Create a positive and educational experience for the students.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and Band Directors regarding all color guard related activities.
Report to the band directors regarding all color guard related activities.
Recruit potential color guard members while retaining current members.
Choreograph routine for fall and winter seasons.
Assist with design of marching band show.
Program coordinator for winter guard show.
Assist with developing a color guard leadership program.
Manage the fall and winter season color guard budget with assistance from Band Directors and Boosters.
Recommend new property purchases within the budget allocations.
Manage all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances including maintenance, and repair.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma
Background in marching band auxiliary performance required.
Experience in flag, rifle, sabre, and dance required.
Experience in composing and choreographing routines for the various color guard units required.
Experience working with school-aged students required; preferably at high school level.
Background in performing with a drums corps preferred.
Background in instruction/adjudication of a drum corps or marching organization preferred.
Compensation: Negotiable based on experience.
