Dr. Mark Waymire is currently Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to his appointment at USM, Dr. Waymire was Associate Director of Bands at Eastern Michigan University. His public school music experience includes 14 years of work in Texas and Louisiana.
Personal honors include six H.E.R.O. teaching awards, nine appointments to WHO’s WHO in American Education, and two presentations of the National President’s Award for Education Excellence. His research in music education has been recognized nationally and internationally and focuses on data analysis of teaching expertise and its effects on student achievement in various music education settings.
Dr. Waymire has been involved with the pageantry arts for over 25 years, including work in visual and music design for DCI and WGI units, as well as for high school and college marching bands. Most of Dr. Waymire’s design clients place in the top percent of their respective local, state, and national competitions. Drum corps experience includes design and staff memberships with the Madison Scouts, Phantom Regiment, Glassmen, and Spirit of Atlanta.
Experience as an adjudicator includes over twenty years of association with WGI, DCI, and BOA as well as with numerous independent, regional, and state sanctioned events.
