SABIAN Honors Three Industry Icons with Lifetime Achievement Awards
Evelyn Glennie, Douglas Howard and Jamie Oldaker Will Be Recognized at Award Ceremony
MEDUCTIC, Canada (November 10, 2006) – SABIAN Ltd., which is currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary, will honor
Evelyn Glennie, Douglas Howard, and Jamie Oldaker with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 31st Annual Percussive Arts
Society International Convention (PASIC). In a ceremony to be held in Austin, Texas, the three industry icons are to
be presented with custom awards and commemorated with speeches from SABIAN personnel, according to SABIAN’s marketing
director, Stacey Montgomery-Clark.
"The Lifetime Achievement Awards go to people who have dedicated their lives to percussion and greatly contributed
to the rich history and heritage of drumming and these three have done exactly that," said Montgomery-Clark. "It comes
with great pleasure to recognize the endless contributions that they have made to our industry. On behalf of everyone
at SABIAN, our congratulations go out to Evelyn, Doug and Jamie."
Evelyn Glennie is one of the first people in music history to successfully sustain a career as a solo percussionist.
Glennie plays more than one hundred performances a year worldwide and after two decades in the music industry she has
begun teaching privately. To date she has won more than seventy awards internationally including two Grammies.
The principal percussionist and assistant timpanist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Douglas Howard, is one of the
founding members of the world music ensemble, D'Drum. Howard is an adjunct professor of percussion at Southern Methodist
University and for the past two decades he has served as principal percussionist of the Aspen Festival Orchestra.
Howard's students have gone on to play with major orchestras around the world including the LA Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony.
Throughout a career which has spanned more than thirty years Jamie Oldaker has been one of the most influential and
respected drummers in the world. During this time Oldaker has recorded and toured with some of the most esteemed names
in music including Bob Seger, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Peter Frampton to name a few. Oldaker has also gone on
to much success with producing projects for many top artists.
