Florida Special Needs Color Guard
May 22, 2007
Winter Guard International was honored to have had the Florida Special Needs Color Guard (FSNCG) to perform at the 2007 WGI World Championships. Coming all the way from Tamarac, Florida, this color guard graced the floor of the University of Dayton Arena both Friday and Saturday evenings of Championships, receiving a standing ovation for both performances.
The FSNCG is comprised of 23 young adults with various developmental disabilities. Also, included on this team are 5 non-disabled participants (unified partners). According to Ellen Kleinert-Cohn, director of the FSNCG, “the beauty of this guard is that they serve as role models for each other. The relationships that form between our members are truly phenomenal. Our non-disabled participants, and coaches become more compassionate, and our special young adults learn appropriate social skills and form wonderful friendships that last a lifetime!”
Ellen states, “ Our plan for WGI was to give phenomenal performances, which our members have worked so very hard on.” The art of “flagging” has been introduced to the FSNCG, and there is no doubt that this is the most complex show they have ever had. The FSNCG would like to acknowledge and thank all their supporting sponsors who make their organization possible.
The Florida Special Needs Color Guard has quickly become a crowd favorite at championships. Fans were very interested in the special needs group and couldn’t wait to see MORE! WGI has heard your voices and we are very excited to announce the release of the full Florida Special Needs Color Guard finals performance on wgi.org!
