In the world of competitive indoor percussion, the WGI - Sport of the Arts World Championships are the pinnacle event of each year. Ensembles from all corners of America travel with their equipment, props, and stages to Dayton, OH where Championships are held each year; also where WGI Headquarters is located. This year’s Championships hosted an all-time record combined number of Scholastic and Independent ensembles in competition. This only further reinforces that indoor percussion, and WGI as the only nation-wide competitive ciruit, is the fastest growing educational performance venue.

Pearl/Adams was well represented in the instrumentation of the competitors. Three out of the top Four  places in Independent World Class competition were awarded to Pearl/Adams Artists, and more Scholastic and Independent World Class ensembles chose Pearl/Adams instruments as their musical voice than any other brand. Riverside City  College (Riverside, CA) earned the Gold medal in Percussion Independent World Class, the very top-tier of all competition. RCC was also the 2002, 2005 and 2007 World Champions and has performed exclusively on Pearl/Adams equipment since 2010.  Their performance this year was entitled The Gift. The Silver Medalist was 7-time World Champion Music City Mystique (Nashville, TN) with their production Nu Tribe. Mystique has played Pearl/Adams exclusively and been WGI finalists every year since the groups inception in 1995. Another stand-out ensemble was George Mason University who won their first Gold medal in Percussion Independent Open Class with their 2012 production Go.

WGI Championships week also included the induction of two Pearl/Adams Artists, Scott Johnson and Jim Wunderlich, into the WGI Hall of Fame.  The WGI Hall of Fame is the highest honor presented to individuals who have influenced WGI history through their achievements and contributions.  These gentlemen joined 46 distinguished fellow honorees at their induction ceremony Wednesday, April 18, just prior to the start of World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
