The marching arts community has been struck by tragedy again. A member of the North Greenville Indoor percussion ensemble was killed on Friday in a single car accident in the northern part of Greenville County, South Carolina. The victim was identified as 16-year-old John Anthony Robb II, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a report by Greenville's WYFF, Robb and another member of the ensemble were traveling in a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta on Highway 414 near Bates Road when the vehicle lost control and slid off the road, crashing into several trees.
The driver was identified as 17-year-old Alan Hughes Wright, who was taken to Greenville Memorial hospital following the accident.
Both members of North Greenville Indoor's bass drum section were headed to a rehearsal in preparation for their performance at the WGI Spartanburg Percussion Regional the next day.
North Greenville Indoor decided to perform on Saturday in honor of Robb. They performed a standstill concert while setting up the bass drums for both players.
From everyone in the marching arts community, our thoughts and prayers go out to John's family and to North Greenville Indoor.
