WGI Video Policy
At WGI Regionals, the director of each unit may designate one person to tape only their performance which is then used for their instructional purposes. This explains why you might see someone video recording in the competition area. They must first obtain a Video Pass from WGI to allow this to occur. If a director has asked you to videotape their performance, you may not bring a video camera into the competition area unless you have a Video Pass obtained from your director.
At WGI Power Regionals, the director of each color guard receives a DVD of their performance provided by WGI. There is not to be any videotaping, even by individual units taping their own performance, at Power Regional events. Videos may not be sold or otherwise publicly distributed without the written permission of Winter Guard International.
At WGI World Championships, NO VIDEO CAMERAS ARE ALLOWED INSIDE THE ARENAS. Unit directors will receive information regarding videotaping of semi-finals if they are involved with that particular contest round.
Individuals found to be videotaping without authorization or otherwise disrupting contest proceedings within the competition area will be removed from the premises without a refund of admission.
Should you witness any unauthorized videotaping please report it to a contest official. We want to apply this policy equally to all in attendance.
WGI Photo Policy
As safety is paramount to all performers, any type of flash photography is strictly prohibited. Family, friends and fans may take still photos of WGI events for personal use only. The images may not be sold or otherwise distributed or publicly displayed without the written permission of Winter Guard International. WGI defines public display as a web site, printed publication or physical location where the public at large can gain access to one or more images of a WGI participating group in performance.
Small, non-professional, single frame "point & shoot" cameras are allowed into all venues. However, use of "Professional Cameras" are prohibited at all WGI events, unless the user has appropriate media credentials and prior written approval from Winter Guard International. Any camera that has a detachable lens or lens that extends to four (4) or more inches is considered a "Professional Camera" and thus prohibited.
Tripods or other similar equipment that may obstruct the view or path of travel of others in the stands are also not allowed.
WGI media credentials are restricted to recognized local and national media. Only WGI will issue credentials to working media pursuant to WGI’s media credentialing policies.
Media Credential Policy
Media Credentials are intended for official media outlets (i.e. newspapers, television, radio) and WGI Sponsors and Partners only.
A representative is required to show official media credentials in order to pick up a pass and must sign in at the World Championship Headquarters with name and media outlet. A student representative of a school's newspaper or yearbook may receive a Media Pass. An adult who is the "official photographer" for a unit does NOT qualify for a WGI event media pass.
The Media Pass will gain the bearer access to the event for the purpose of news, information and image gathering. It is not a ticket to the event. and does not guarantee you a seat at any event, nor does it allow for press box access. Any abuse of the media pass by a representative of a participating unit in the event will result in its revocation, and a possible penalty for the unit associated with the organization.
In the case of television news crews that require more than one pass, you can pick up the additional credential on site with valid station credential presented on site.
Winter Guard International continues to reserve the right to monitor, control and set policy concerning the photographing and recording of its events. Winter Guard International will continue to make video recordings and professional still photographs available through its authorized vendor/partners.
