Events Internship

Overview: An exciting opportunity to help build your portfolio! Assist with making all details of WGI Regional Championships, and World Championships come to life. Assist with organizing materials and schedules, manage shipping calendars, creating documents and signs to assure the events run smoothly. Assignments will focus on operational tasks (facility/equipment/supply issues and arrangements), event on-site operation (scheduling and correspondence/procedure & flow operations).

Details: Aprox 10 – 15 hours per week in our Dayton, OH office.  Because we are a producer of "special events," employees and interns sometimes work on a flexible basis, with substantially more time being worked during and immediately prior to events. Hours will be flexible to fit your schedule between a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. regular work-day. The program adjusts to your school calendar and WGI will do all that is possible and necessary to assist in efforts to secure academic credit for your experience.  2 weeks in April will include 6, 16-18 hour days.

Marketing Internship

Overview: Did you know that most marching arts fans keep up with their favorite WGI division through social media? Be one of the people who communicate with them on behalf of WGI! In this position the marketing intern will not only communicate to WGI’s audience you will help craft campaigns, ads and messages that make performers and fans become excited about WGI’s events.

Details: This is a paid internship that requires approximately 10 – 15 hours per week.  Because we are a producer of "special events," employees and interns sometimes work on a flexible basis, with substantially more time being worked during and immediately prior to events. Hours will be flexible to fit your schedule between a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. regular work-day. The program adjusts to your school calendar and WGI will do all that is possible and necessary to assist in efforts to secure academic credit for your experience. Two weeks in April for the Color Guard, Percussion and Winds World Championships will include six, 16-18 hour days.

Responsibilities include: Social Media Marketing, Creating a social media calendar, Organizing photos, Creating Facebook events, Sharing content from WGI’s sponsors. and partners, Tracking WGI’s social media analytics, Helping to create and distribute WGI’s Facebook digital awards, Assisting the marketing manager in summarizing social media content from each WGI Regional and World Championships using Storify,  Assisting the marketing manager in coordinating WGI’s social media crew as needed, Writing and creating new feature stories for wgi.org, Moderating and approving content for the World Championships social media feed using Tintup.com, Assisting the WGI office on its move to the World Championships site and performing operational tasks.

WGI Writers

Overview: This is a great year-round opportunity for anyone who seeks to write about the marching arts. WGI offers freelance and contracted writing positions to keep WGI’s audience up-to-date on the latest color guard, percussion and winds news. Writers will be assigned stories as well as be asked to pitch article ideas for website features, FOCUS magazine and event coverage.

Details: This position is for someone with experience in writing for publications or is studying to become a journalist.

Video Opportunity - WGI News Crew

Dates: Jan - April

Overview: A fun opportunity to build your video experience and demo reel while working in the exciting activity of Winter Guard, Indoor Percussion, and Winds.  WGI is looking for creative volunteers to produce highlight reels from various WGI events. 

Details: Applicants must have video experience and access to HD recording equipment and most important, a passion for the indoor activities.

Onsite Social Media Crew Member

Overview: Are you attending a WGI regional this season? Consider yourself a social media pro? Then apply now and join the Onsite Social Media Crew.

This is a great one or multiple day opportunity for individuals that are unable to physically help at the WGI office but are able to attend a color guard/percussion/winds regional near their hometown. In this capacity the crew member serves WGI as a social media ambassador covering WGI regional events. The crew member is required to cover these events through means of Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, and Periscope. Members working the event will be virtually working with the WGI Communications manager on the best content approach and schedule. Those applying must also have excellent social media time management, communication and writing skills.

Details: Applicants must be proficient in the latest social media platforms. Must also share a passion for the marching arts. You will be working a full day (7 to 9 hours) alone at the WGI regional until the end of the awards ceremony. Being a part of the WGI Social Media Crew you will be required to work from your mobile phone or tablet (newer phones with great picture & video quality preferred). Extra data charges may apply. This is a voluntary one-day regional event position for those seeking to expand their knowledge on strategic social media methods for WGI.
